Glade's Pike Inn

A view from the hill above the Glade's Pike Inn, Somerset, PA. We stayed there the first night on the way down to Williamsburg. An added bonus was "Lil Miss Fuzzy" the cat, who liked us enough to stay in our room. DW5D3987

Eggleston Mansion at Powhatan Resort

Front view of the fully restored Georgian manor house at the center of the Powhatan Resort. The house was designed and built by Richard Taliaferro, where he lived after marrying into the Eggleston family. His reapportioned plantation estate in 1735 was 975 acres, a fraction of the Eggleston land, some of which is now the resort. DW5D4058

Sir Christopher Wren Building

The historic Sir Christopher Wren Building rear courtyard at the College of William and Mary, founded in 1693 by The Reverend James Blair, Rector of Bruton Parish Church. This was the first large structure built on the campus in 1695, and has burned down and rebuilt three times. DW5D4016_1_HDR2

The Governor's Palace Rear View

The rear of the Governor's Palace is in many ways more grand than the front. This north side sports elaborate gardens, stone walls and wide walkways. DW5D4106_2_hdr

Governor's Palace Foyer

Visitors to the Governor's Palace enter a foyer with hundreds of swords, guns and weapons of war displayed on the walls. These weapon displays continue through the first floor main hall and up the stairway to the second floor. The idea is to intimidate all guests with the power the Governor holds backed up by the British crown. General La Fayette

Here is the excellent reenactor who portrayed Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier de La Fayette, or better known as General Marquis de La Fayette. The Williamsburg Art Museum hosts many historical talks for the public, which is where we met Mr. La Fayette. Following the presentation, guests are invited to chat and take photos at the entranceway where, when he saw my Canon camera and long lens, he said "My good sir, we could use a cannon such as yours in the upcoming campaign at Yorktown in a few weeks to help defeat the British." He never strayed from his portrayal. DW5D4125
